Acupressure

Also Known As (AKA) - Myofascial Release utilizes hands-on stimulation of acupuncture points. The goals of treatment include decrease muscle spasm, metabolic residue and calcific infiltration. Additionally, there is an increase of lymphatic and vascular circulation, thus promoting the healing process.

Ambulatory Care

Capitation

A health insurance payment mechanism in which a fixed amount is paid per person to cover services over a period of time; a fixed, per capita payment.

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that is concerned with human health and disease processes. Co-insurance

The percentage of the balance of covered medical expenses that a beneficiary must pay after the deductible.

Co-payment

The sum of co-insurance and deductibles. Alternatively, a fixed dollar amount per service that is the responsibility of the beneficiary.

The specific amount of covered medical expenses that a beneficiary must pay before receiving benefits.

Disc Herniation

A condition that results in the abnormal protrusion (bulging), herniation or prolapse of a vertebral disc from its normal position in the vertebral column. The displaced disc may exert force on a nearby nerve root causing the typical neurologic symptoms of radiating pain (to an extremity), numbness, tingling and weakness. Recurrent episodes of severe back pain are common.

Managed Care

Any system of delivering health services where the plan receives a capitated payment for providing all medically necessary care to its enrolled members. It often involves a defined system of providers with some form of contractual arrangement with the plan.

An inflammation of the thin layer of fibrous tissue (fascia) that surrounds a muscle and attaches it to the bone.

Sprain

A tearing injury to ligaments. Sprains can be minor, with only a slight stress to the ligament or may be severe with total separation of a ligament that supports a joint. There are varying degrees and severities of strains.

A tearing injury to muscle. Usually causes some amount of bleeding within the muscle tissue. There are varying degrees and severities of strains.

Subluxation

An unhealthy situation that occurs when one or more vertebrae are misaligned as they relate to the vertebrae above and below. This situation could be sub clinical (in its early stages you feel now pain or discomfort) or cause debilitating complaints and symptoms. Long term subluxation can cause degenerative arthritis and loss of function in the body.
